Artist Statement:
While I admire, and am in awe of, the creative skill it takes to construct an art quilt, I still somehow find myself drawn to traditional pieced quilts.
I remember being put down for a nap and tracing with my finger the seams of the quilt I was tucked under. I loved the colors and shapes in those quilts that my grandmother's made. I suppose that is why I like traditional piecing and quilting so much. I like the look and the feelings that old quilts evoke. The preservation of this art form is very important to me.
The intriguing, endless possibilities, which are produced by combining the simple shapes of squares, triangles, hexagons, and rectangles, hold an unending fascination for me. Everywhere I look I see these shapes and think of ways to produce them in quilts.
Teaching the construction and appreciation for traditional quilts is what I really love to do. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than being able to impart knowledge about how to use some newer technique or tool to produce the look and feel of these old treasures.
Come take a class and see if you agree!
