Tip & Techniques!

How to apply STAIN REMOVAL:

  1. To remove blood stains on quilts use your own saliva! I know it sounds gross but it works! The enzymes in your saliva break down the proteins in blood. Then sponge the stain with cold water until you are satisfied that you have removed all of the saliva. As with any stain it is best to treat it right away.

  1. Ballpoint pen ink can be removed with cheap hairspray. Just spray the stain, blot, and sponge with cold water.
  1. Try sponging rust spots with pure lemon juice and holding the spot over a steaming tea kettle. Be careful not to burn yourself or the quilt!  This technique may weaken old fabric. Use with caution!

  1. There are a number of ways to remove pencil marks from your quilt. Try these.
    1. Two drops of yellow dishwashing liquid, three tablespoons of alcohol, one tablespoon of water mixed into a solution and rubbed gently on the pencil mark. Then rinse well.
    2. Another job for cheap hairspray! Spray the marks, let dry, rub gently with a gum eraser.
    3. Silver or white pencil marks can be removed by rubbing with a wad of quilt batting!
